A Note from the Owner:

"'Necessity is the mother of invention' writes Greek Philosopher, Plato, and that is just how Pittsburgh Handyman came to be. The business started on a shoestring using the family van as a work truck, and a few power tools, renting specialized equipment as needed. We focused on residential painting and painting related repairs. The business evolved. We bought a service truck and began doing heavier carpentry repairs and remodeling. Customer recommendations were quickly being passed from friend to friend. Very little advertising was needed. My sons would join me in the summer during semester breaks for the heavier outdoor work. We were painting three story houses, condos, adding porch roofs, kitchens and baths. It was amazing how much the Pittsburgh region needed this type of service. Commercial customers were starting to use our services as well."

"In the summer of 2003, Murphy's Law prevailed, and I suffered a serious injury in a ladder fall that took several months to recuperate. The ability to personally perform the large jobs was finished. Residential work is much more physically demanding, so that portion of the business was put aside, and commercial work became the specialty."

"Now, the company specializes in small commercial painting and drywall repair jobs, as well as cabinet repairs to doors and drawers, carpentry, and light electrical work. The repair of mechanized jewelry cases is also an area of specialized services that is rapidly growing. "

• Licensed and Insured. The last thing you want is a contractor to be working on your property, only to find out they don't have the proper insurance or aren't licensed to do the work, because if something goes wrong or someone is hurt at a work site, you could be held liable for the damages. Make sure that the general contractor you choose has ample property damage, and personal liability coverage...we do, and would be pleased to forward any documentation required.
• References. The best way to ascertain if the general contractor you choose is skilled and competent enough to do the job is to ask for and verify a list of references consisting of past customers that you can contact. Customers that get what they paid for and who are happy with the job your contractor has done for them are usually only too happy to provide an endorsement on the contractor's work.
